The package, which is expected to be announced in a few days, includes a commitment to provide Ukraine with a guided “Small-Diameter Land-Launched Bomb” with a range of about 150 kilometers, according to the news that the Associated Press (AP) citing on US officials who did not want to reveal their names.
TO BE DELIVERED TO UKRAINE
In order to help Russia better defend against missile attacks, equipment to connect all the different air defense systems sent to Ukraine by Western countries will also be delivered to Ukraine as part of the package prepared by the USA.
The U.S. aid package includes $425 million in ammunition and support equipment to be withdrawn from existing Pentagon stockpiles, and $1.75 billion in new funding through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, used to purchase new weapons for Ukraine.
“Longer range” rockets to be sent to Ukraine, air defense system integration equipment, two HAWK Air Defense Systems, anti-aircraft weapons and ammunition, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be financed from Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds.
THE US HAS HESITTED FOR A LONG TIME
The US hesitated for a long time to send long-range rocket systems to Ukraine, fearing that Ukraine could target Russian territory and that it would be drawn into the war.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said in a statement yesterday that he was ready to guarantee that if his allies gave long-range missiles to Ukraine, they would not attack Russia’s territory with these weapons.
Washington has provided approximately $27.2 billion in military support to the Kyiv administration since Russia launched its attacks on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
