Today comes an update for the PS5, which unlocks the voice chat on the console. In a few steps you can activate the function on your PS5.

Many gamers have been waiting for this: With the next update you can finally use Discord’s voice chat on your PS5.

There is still a small restriction. Because as of today, all PS5 beta participants can first install the update on the PS5 and then use the feature. In the coming days, however, the function should be activated for everyone. We explain to you how to proceed.

Use Discord voice chat on the PS5 – Here’s how

Unlock Beta Update: To participate in the PS5 Discord Voice Support beta test, you will receive an email with a code that will unlock access to the beta software. After inserting the code, the PS5 will perform a software update.

Link PSN and Discord: First you need to link your PSN account to Discord. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • You go to Settings > Users & Accounts > Connected Services on your PS5
  • Here you can then link your Discord account.
  • You then confirm the link either in the browser of your PS5 or via QR code. Sony itself recommends the QR code.

    • If you have already linked a PlayStation Network account to Discord in the past, you will need to do this step again to grant the required Discord voice chat permissions.

    Using voice chat on PS5:

  • Now when you launch Discord on your phone or on your PC, there should be a new option called “Join on PlayStation.”
  • After that, you can select the console you want to transfer the Discord voice chat conversation to.
  • On the console you can then use all known controls from Discord. For example, mute other players or change your own volume.
