Xavier Yvon: I know, by launching this podcast, given its title, you expect me to talk to you about the pension reform, I can reassure you, I’ll get to it… but first, I’m going to read you a few lines from a letter written by Gustave Flaubert to his sister in 1841:
“Since you do geometry and trigonometry, I’m going to give you a problem: A ship is at sea, it left Boston loaded with cotton, it measures 200 tons, it sails towards Le Havre, the mainmast is broken , there is a cabin boy on the forecastle, the passengers are twelve in number, the wind is blowing N.-E.-E., the clock strikes a quarter past three in the afternoon, we are in May… How old is the captain? “
Don’t try to solve this riddle, it’s impossible… this joke by Flaubert gave rise to the expression passed into everyday language: “the age of the captain”, which designates a problem stated in such a way as to have no no mathematical or logical answer…
Perhaps you have thought about this formula in recent weeks… When you logged on to the famous simulator, to find out at what age the current reform would allow you to retire.
This question of age crushes the debate… And yet, it could be otherwise…
Because extending working hours is not the only way to rebalance our pension system, far from it…
From the taxation of billionaires to the dose of capitalization, via the Swedish model, the tracks are legion… and to gain height on the discussion, we have chosen to examine them today.
