(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Slovenské elektrárne (SE) has connected to Slovak network the first of the two generators of Unit 3 of the Mochovce nuclear power plant and as a result, it started feeding electricity into the grid with the generator synchronizing at 20% of the reactor’s rated capacity. The plant was connected to the grid less than three weeks after the go-ahead from the Slovak nuclear authority to start up the reactor, released on 13 January.

It is a important milestone for Slovenské elektrárnewhich started the construction of Mochovce Unit 3 in 2008, and for the Enel groupwhich currently owns approximately 33% of the company.

The new generation capacity, in line with the parameters of the EU taxonomy, is the second newly built nuclear power plant to be connected to the European grid in 15 years. Once fully operational, the 471 MW Mochovce Unit 3 will help reduce Europe’s dependence on gas, as well as meet approximately 13% of total electricity consumption in Slovakia without carbon dioxide emissions.
