In Belgium, the glass room in a museum to write the new book of the author Saskia De Coster became the agenda. Settled in a 12-square-metre glass-walled room at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, author De Coster will work here for a month to complete his new book. De Coster, who named his performance “The Author is Here”, will meet his daily needs such as eating and sleeping in the section behind the glass room.
VISITORS CAN WATCH THE AUTHOR
Visitors visiting the museum will be able to watch the author as he writes his book. The room will contain only a computer, a desk, a chair and 28 books that the author takes with him each day.
NOT TALK TO ANYONE
De Coster will not use the phone, social media, or talk to anyone during his stay in the room.
“THE WORST POSSIBILITY, MY EXPERIENCE WILL BE RICHER”
Speaking to the Belgian press about his performance, De Coster said: “Ideally, at the end of a month, a complete enlightenment and a finished book. At worst, my experience will be enriched.” said.
The Belgian writer said, “Since my childhood, recluses have fascinated me. I think there is a fine line between hysteria and mysticism. This way of being disconnected from reality takes you to a higher level and gives you freedom in your mind. As a child, I used to sit by myself in the garden of our house and let my imagination run wild.” he said.
“MAKING INVISIBLE WORK VISIBLE”
De Coster also said that he wanted to make writing not a secret or mysterious act, “to make invisible labor visible”. (AA)
