A 17-year-old boy has been requested to be detained for aiding and abetting the murder of a 15-year-old boy who was shot dead inside a restaurant in Skogås in southern Stockholm last Saturday.
The boy is requested to be detained at Södertörn District Court as a suspect on probable grounds.
“The investigation is in an intensive stage and the police are working on information gathering, investigations and analyses,” says prosecutor Ida Arnell, who is the preliminary investigation leader, according to a press release from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The 17-year-old was arrested and detained on the night of Sunday.
The police received the call about the shooting at 18:00 on Saturday and several patrols were sent to the scene. Later in the evening, the police announced that a boy under the age of 18 had been killed. The public prosecutor’s office now confirms that it is a 15-year-old boy.
The timing of the detention hearing has not yet been determined.
The shootings and explosions in the Stockholm area have followed each other since Christmas Day, when a known gang criminal was shot to death in Rinkeby. In total, around 25 violent crimes linked to gang criminals have occurred in the past month.
On January 20, the police decided to initiate a so-called special event due to the spiral of violence. Regional police chief Mattias Andersson then said that the violence has its basis in three different ongoing conflicts.
Last week, the police stated that they had made around 30 arrests linked to the wave of violence. Several of those arrested are under the age of 15 and handed over to social services.
