The Last of Us breaks hearts with Bill and Frank, but the best part about Episode 3 was actually a stopgap

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

We’re now into the third week of excitement for The Last of Us series. Episode 3 titled Long, long time pauses the otherwise precise adaptation of the video game plot and gives the shared adventure of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) a break for the most part.

Instead, The Last of Us is dedicated this week to the tragic love story of the two survivors, Bill and Frank. The latest chapter broke the hearts of some fans. Last but not least, this is due to the sensitive and strong acting of the two actors Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus). But we almost got to see a completely different Bill.

After The Last of Us exit, Nick Offermann became the replacement Bill

Episode 3 takes a fast-forward look at Bill and Frank’s relationship over a 16-year period – from their first meeting to their heartbreaking goodbyes. Bill actor Nick Offerman in particular has received a lot of praise from fans for his interpretation of the character known from the video game template. But he was not the first choice for the role.

A very different actor was originally slated to play the idiosyncratic trapper Bill in the episode directed by Peter Hoar (It’s a Sin). The British actor Con O’Neill was already officially part of the cast and should have worked again with The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin after the disaster series Chernobyl.

Con O’Neill vs Nick Offerman

A few months after the casting announcement, however, it became known that Con O’Neill had to leave the project. Nick Offermann stepped in as a substitute.

the reason for exit is simple. Filming of The Last of Us collided with production of Taika Waititi’s pirate comedy series Our Flag Means Death. In it, O’Neill plays the right hand of the legendary pirate Blackbeard.

In addition, Con O’Neill was last seen in the DC blockbuster The Batman as chief of the Gotham City Police Department, Mackenzie Bock.

It’s hard to imagine what The Last of Us would have looked like without Nick Offermann and Murray Bartlett. The reshuffle appears a real stroke of luck to have been. It’s not without reason that many fans already see a nomination for the duo on the horizon for this year’s Emmy Awards:
