Resident suffers critical injuries in Waterford house fire

One person suffered critical injuries in a residential fire in Waterford on Saturday afternoon.

Two occupants of the home at 23 Sylvia Street were in the care of paramedics when firefighters arrived at the scene at about 5:40 pm

One elderly person suffered critical injuries while the other occupant suffered smoke inhalation. Both were transported to hospital for treatment, Cory Armstrong-Smith, Norfolk County fire prevention officer, said in a media release.

“Special thanks to the Norfolk OPP for their assistance with both victims,” he said.

Fire crews from Simcoe, Waterford, Teeterville and Delhi remained at the scene working to bring the fire under control as of about 8 p.m. Saturday night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
