Oskarshamn beat Örebro by a whopping 5-1 last week – and made sure to bring home the road-winning game.
Then the SHL hockey table Växjö became an affordable task.
The basis for the victory was arranged in two parts: the team stood against Växjö’s initial dominance – which consisted, among other things, of Kalle Kossila’s missed penalty – and the goals in the second period.
“Standed on my head”
— We are under siege for 12–15 minutes, it would probably have been 3–0, 4–0 if Tim (Juel, the goalkeeper) had not stood on his head and boxplay played well, says coach Martin Filander to C More.
— It says something about morale to be able to turn it around and then be really good.
Oskarshamn only needed ten seconds in the power play before Jiri Smejkal sent in 1-0 in the power play in the second period.
Johannes Salomonsson increased to 2–0 after 9.38 of the period and just over a minute later Antti Suomela made it 3–0.
— We said it after the first (period), which they totally dominated, that it’s hard not to score when you’re dominating, says Salomonsson to C More.
— If we get in first then it can be a bit of a slog, that’s how I experienced the period.
Växjö’s Rasmus Bengtsson:
— They got the upper hand after the first goal. I think we lost the game from the first, where we dominated but didn’t get the puck in, he tells C More.
Third straight victory against Växjö
Oskarshamn was all the more skilled at getting the puck in.
In the third, Smejkal made it 4–0 in a free position in numerical disadvantage, Myles Powell made it 5–0 and Suomela 6–0
The victory was Oskarshamn’s third of as many possible against Växjö during the season.
Leksand conceded two late goals in the home meeting with Örebro – and never managed to get up.
Indeed, Carter Ashton reduced at the end of the second period, after Milton Oscarson and Mathias Bromé’s goals for Örebro, but the Dalalaget did not get particularly close.
Instead, Emil Larsson scored 3–1 in an empty net.
