Two people have been injured in a new shooting in East Jerusalem. The 13-year-old perpetrator was shot at the scene.
According to Israeli emergency services, the two wounded men, father and son, were both shot in the upper body. According to Haaretz are both seriously injured but the condition is stable.
The shooter is said to be a 13-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot by police at the scene, but there is no further information on his condition.
– It usually dies out quite quickly, but the fears this time are that it won’t and that it could possibly lead to a third intifada. All signs have pointed in the wrong direction, says Anders Persson, political scientist at Linnaeus University.
The killing on Saturday comes barely a day after Friday’s bloody attack on a synagogue in the city, and makes the situation increasingly tense in Israel.
Seven people, including a 70-year-old woman, were killed when the gunman opened fire at a synagogue in what was described as the worst terrorist attack in Jerusalem since 2008. According to Israeli media, the shooting occurred as people were leaving the Ateret Avraham synagogue after Friday night prayers.
