A person armed with a knife has been shot by police in Västerås. The incident occurred just before 6 pm in the Nordanby area.
It was the public who alerted the police about a man armed with a knife at a bus stop. The police state on their website that several police patrols were ordered to the scene.
“When the man, despite the police firing warning shots, does not drop the knife, the police also fire live fire at the man, who is hit in the leg.
Despite this, he refuses to drop the knife and the police begin cordoning off the area before the man, who is aged 55, finally drops the knife and can be overpowered. The man, who was cared for by paramedics on site, is being taken into custody and will be handed over to the medical service for an assessment,” the police write.
