At 36, the Algerian veteran, Azzedine Lagab, won the 4th stage of the Amissa Bongo cycling tour this Thursday, January 26 in Lambaréné.
On the banks of the Ogooué in Lambaréné, the Algerian Azzedine Lagab won the sprint ahead of the Eritrean Teshome Hagos. The two riders maintained a few seconds lead over the peloton after a long breakaway. The arrival in Lambaréné, the longest stage of the 2023 edition with just over 190 kilometers, was played at the photo-finish for Azzedine Lagab’s first victory in the history of the Tropicale. The 36-year-old rider had a great success and ended the winning streak of Team TotalEnergies which had won the first three stages.
Frenchman Jason Tesson, winner of stages 2 and 3, came 3rd, but retains the overall yellow jersey. A ranking dominated by the French who take the first four places, with in particular three riders from Team TotalEnergies (Tesson 1st, Soupe 2nd, and Jeanniere 4th).
On Friday January 27, the riders tackle the Kango-Angondje stage, 130 kilometers long. After leaving Kango, the runners will bypass Libreville to the north to arrive in the town of Angondjé, the scene of major Gabonese sporting events, with the national football team and the Libreville Marathon.
