Märta Stenevi, spokesperson for the Green Party, believes that today’s high electricity prices in southern Sweden could have been lower if offshore wind power had been expanded at a faster rate.
Reactors were shut down
The party was in government for seven years and during that time four nuclear power reactors were shut down. At the same time, the energy companies’ research institute Energiforsk believes that the high energy prices in southern Sweden could have been much lower if the nuclear power reactors Ringhals 1 and 2 had still been in use.
When Stenevi is asked whether the Green Party is responsible for the high prices, she says that the party should have pushed harder in the discussions to bring more offshore wind power to fruition faster.
“Should have done more”
– We should have done even more to get them out quickly and not let the goal conflict, for example with the defense, put a wet blanket over what now instead becomes a security risk when we become dependent on Russia, says Stenevi and continues:
– Perhaps we should have pushed even harder, perhaps we should have left the government earlier. What is clear is that we should have had that sea breeze in place now.
