SNCF strike should we expect disruptions this Thursday January 26

SNCF STRIKE. At the call of the CGT-Cheminots, SNCF agents are invited to mobilize against the pension reform, this Thursday, January 26. Are disruptions to be expected on the rails?

[Mis à jour le 25 janvier 2023 à 23h38] During the first day of demonstrations and blockades against the pension reform, on January 19, 46.3% of SNCF personnel went on strike. Before a second act planned, meanwhile, on January 31, the CGT, and its “railway workers” branch, filed a strike notice from Wednesday January 25, 2023 at 7 p.m. until Thursday February 2 at 8 a.m.

However, there is no indication that disruptions will arise for SNCF users this Thursday, since on the various sites of the railway company, there is no mention of potential disruptions. The strikers, who must declare themselves 48 hours before the start of the strike, also gave no sign of movement on January 26.

Given that it is not a unitary mobilization, but only coming from the CGT union, the strike should very little affect the SNCF main line network (TGV, Intercités) but could cause some disruptions on the network of regional lines (TER and Transiliens). On the other hand, there is a good chance that January 31 will be a “black Tuesday” on the whole of French rail. Anyway, if any disruptions are announced, they will be communicated here this evening.

Are we heading towards an indefinite strike at the SNCF?

The CGT-Cheminots and SUD-Rail unions also proposed a renewable strike “from mid-February” at the SNCF, with initially, “dtwo consecutive days of strike on February 7 and 8, 2023, which fall during the winter holidays in zone A and just before the start of the School vacation of area B.

On the evening of January 31, the CGT Cheminots and SUD-Rail unions will propose “to meet in general assemblies and to debate the intensification of the action by two consecutive days of strike. (…) And, for lack of withdrawal of the text, to consider the strike renewable by periods of 24 hours from mid-February”.
