Two people have died and five have been injured in a knife attack on a train in northern Germany. The train was on its way from Kiel to Hamburg.
According to the German Federal Police, the man attacked his fellow passengers shortly before the train arrived at Broksted station. The suspected perpetrator was caught at Brokstedt station north of Hamburg.
Minister of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein Sabine Sütterling-Waack said the attack happened around 3pm local time.
– This is terrible. We are shocked and horrified that something like this could happen, Sütterling-Waack told broadcaster NDR.
The station is closed due to a police operation. Both federal and local police are present. The man’s motive is not clear.
