On Wednesday evening, Sweden’s national handball team faced Egypt to fight for a WC semi-final at Tele2 Arena.
It was a tough match for the blue-and-yellows, who quickly found themselves at a disadvantage, and in addition, Jim Gottfridsson already lost in the seventh minute. The team captain appeared to be in pain and then had his hand bandaged.
– It looked like he got stuck with the index finger of his left hand in some way in an Egyptian defender, and twisted it, says TV4 Sport’s Mattias Tjernström after the match.
However, after several class saves by goalkeeper Andreas Palicka, Sweden was able to come back – with flying colours. Towards the end, Egypt managed to reduce and close in on Sweden – but would never really threaten.
– In the end, a stable Swedish victory, but worrying when it comes to him who before the championship was named the world’s best player, Jim Gottfridsson.
The match ended 26-22 to Sweden, and now they face France on Friday evening.
