When former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and current Minister of Energy and Markets Ebba Busch meet in Aktuellt, it is above all the promises regarding the electricity subsidy that are at the center.
During the election campaign, the current governing parties promised that a high-cost protection would be in place as early as November 1. On Wednesday, however, the first electricity subsidy that goes to households in areas 3 and 4 was presented. The payments start on February 20 and apply to consumption between October 2021 and September 2022. But Andersson is not satisfied:
– Above all, it is not in line with what Ebba Busch promised during the election, she says.
– Ebba Busch promised Swedish families that they would not have an electricity bill of more than SEK 4,000-5,000, but I got an electricity bill of SEK 10,000.
“The Swedish people have the right to demand responsibility”
According to the Swedish Enforcement Agency, private individuals’ electricity debts have increased by 27 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year. Busch admits that she “would have liked the electricity support to have come earlier”, but says at the same time that the government’s results show how “difficult it is to compensate for a dismantled electricity system”.
– I want to be clear about where the responsibility lies: the Swedish people have the right to demand responsibility for us being where we are, that is Magdalena Andersson’s responsibility. My responsibility is now to ensure that we get out of this crisis, says Ebba Busch.
