Then she got hold of the most sought-after role in Hollywood. Garner was set to play pop icon Madonna in a biopic. But now came the setback. Madonna has put the project on hold – although Garner really gave everything in the tough selection process.

Actresses such as Florence Pugh and Emma Laird had applied for the role of the pop icon, who wanted to make a big impact on the biopic. The selection process included a “Madonna Bootcamp”, which the Hollywood Reporter described in March:

Why Madonna is calling off the biopic
Last week Madonna announced her world tour. That is now the sole focus of the influential musician, as the industry journal Variety has learned.
Accordingly, the Untitled Madonna biopic is no longer being actively worked on. Madonna wants to do the film “at some point”, but the project is effectively on hold. At first, Julia Garner’s efforts were in vain.
Next, the actress is likely to appear in Apartment 7A, which is set to tell the prequel to the horror classic Rosemary’s Baby.
