On Tuesday evening, an orange warning was issued for very strong wind in combination with snowfall in the northern Lapland mountains, and a yellow warning for wind in the southernmost Lapland mountains and northern Jämtland mountains.
The worst of the snowfall fell overnight, but severe weather warnings remain in place. During Wednesday, mild air moves up over the country, which brings rain in the southern mountain regions.
— It will probably be quite a whipping rain on Calffjäll. Unaccustomed visitors are advised not to venture out, says Max Schildt, meteorologist on duty at SMHI.
The wind and snowfall are expected to moderate during the afternoon and decrease during the evening.
Further south, in Arbogaån, there is an orange warning for flooding as a result of large amounts of rain and snowmelt since last week. The risk decreases downstream, but still reaches up to a yellow warning.
Further south, warnings for high flows remain in several places. Svartån, Nedre Alsterån, Nedre Lagan, Lyckebyån and Bräkneån all have yellow warnings for flooding.
The flooding and high flows peaked earlier this week and are expected to subside during the week.
Wednesday’s plus degrees turn into minus degrees on Thursday across the country, which in some places can bring a risk of slipping.
“You might have to pull on the spikes and drive a little carefully,” says Max Schildt.
Along the coasts, there is a yellow warning for gales in the Gulf of Bothnia, North Kvarken, South Bothnia, North Baltic and Skagerrak.
