The German government has decided that it will send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, reports Der Spiegel.

Volodomy Zelenskyy has previously said that this is at the top of his wish list.

The German decision has been preceded by several months of debate.

    New classified documents have been found, now at the home of former Vice President Mike Pence, reports say CNN.

    The documents were found by a lawyer at Pence’s home in Indiana. They have now been handed over to the FBI, sources told CNN.

    The revelation comes after Pence has repeatedly said he has no classified documents.

    It is not yet clear what the documents are about.

    The Biden administration is leaning toward sending a large number of Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine, according to sources The Wall Street Journal.

    A statement on the matter could come this week, according to US officials, and could prompt Germany to agree to send the Leopard 2.

    A possible deal would address a rift between the US and Germany, as well as the rest of Europe, over sending tanks to Ukraine.

  • The Prime Minister calls a press conference on the NATO process

    Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is calling a press conference on Tuesday evening due to the NATO process and Sweden’s security, the government announces.

    Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) and Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) also participate.

  • Sweaters recalled – can easily catch fire

    Helly Hansen is recalling 15 different shirt models because they are too flammable, TT reports.

    The sweaters contain brushed cotton which may not meet the fire safety requirements for clothing textiles. The wearer of the garment can therefore suffer burns if it catches fire.

    “Consumers who purchased the recalled products are asked to destroy the garments by cutting them in half and send a photo of the destroyed product, including the label at the neck of the garment. Once the image has been received, the consumer will receive a credit receipt for another purchase,” writes Helly Hansen on its website.

  • Turkey cancels meeting with Sweden and Finland

    In February, it was supposed that representatives from Turkey, Sweden and Finland would meet in Brussels for a negotiation meeting. But now Turkey cancels the meeting, reports Reuters. It is postponed, indefinitely.

  • 20-year-old man detained after explosion in Årsta

    On Thursday evening, the police were alerted to an explosion in the stairwell of an apartment building. A hand grenade was thrown in, according to the police.

    Now the police are detaining a 20-year-old man who is suspected of the crime of public destruction, reports Dagens Nyheter.

    No one was injured in the explosion.

    During Tuesday, four other people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in other matters in the ongoing wave of violence.

  • SMHI issues warnings: Risk of frostbite

    SMHI has issued yellow and orange warnings for several parts of the country during Tuesday. Strong winds and snowfall drag across the northern parts of Sweden, writes TT.

    The orange warning applies to the Lapland mountains, where very strong winds are expected until 20:00. People are advised not to go out on the mountain as the risk of frostbite is high, writes TT.

    The southern parts may instead be affected by high water flows.

    In parts of central Norrland, a yellow warning has been issued for rain and sudden icy conditions until a bit at night.

    To the south, there is a yellow warning for high flows in Svartån, Silverån, Nedre Alsterån, Nedre Lagan, Lyckebyån and Bräkneån, among others.

    The Swedish embassy in Ankara is closed due to the Turkish protests against Sweden.

    “The embassy in Ankara will be closed to the public on Tuesday, January 24 due to the fact that demonstrations outside the embassy can be expected,” it says on Sweden abroad.

    The protests started after Danish Rasmus Paludan’s Koran burning near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm last Saturday.

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Swedes who are in Turkey to avoid large gatherings of people and to stay updated on the situation.

    L leader Johan Pehrson is now commenting on Turkey’s strong reaction after Rasmus Paludan’s Koran burning.

    – In Sweden you get insulted. You can explain with the strongest expression what you think about a religion, if you don’t attack a person and engage in incitement against ethnic groups or slander, he said when he met reporters in the Riksdag a little while ago.

    – It must be painful to see actions that challenge me as a person, regardless of my religion or political opinion, he says further.

    Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has said that he understands Muslims who feel offended by the act. SD leader Jimmie Åkesson has called it a “failure towards Islamist forces”.

    – I don’t think that the disagreement is that big in substance, I assume that all parties in Sweden’s Risk Day stand up for the Swedish constitution, says Johan Pehrson.

  • Police chief under criminal investigation after girlfriend got gun

    Police chief Mats Löfving is suspected of a crime after giving his ex-girlfriend Linda Staaf a gun.

    At the time, Staaf was appointed as head of intelligence at the police.

    But not authorized to carry service weapons.

    A prosecutor confirms for Dagens Nyheter that Löfving’s decision about the weapon may be criminal.

    According to the newspaper, a preliminary investigation must therefore be initiated.
