The purpose is to give FMV the opportunity to support Ukraine within the framework of the authority’s activities, which are largely to procure, develop and deliver materiel and services to the Swedish defense.
“We are to help Ukraine defend its country and they have asked for support with the purchase of equipment, among other things. The government’s authorization to FMV makes it possible for Ukraine to speed up acquisitions by using FMV’s competence and established procedures to carry out its own procurements. We will begin this work immediately,” says FMV’s director general Göran Mårtensson in a press release.
FMV receives permission to negotiate with the Ukrainian competent authority and enter into international agreements on, among other things, the procurement of defense equipment. The decision also enables cooperation on support in the construction and development of the organization and operations for procurement as well as the exchange of information and experience.
Ukraine may use Swedish contract structures and routines and connect to ongoing Swedish procurements and Swedish orders.
