In a statement made today, the trade minister of the Asian country, appleHe said that it aims to shift 25% of its production to India. Piyush Goyal said at a trade conference that around 5% to 7% of Apple products are currently produced in India, and the goal is to increase that number fivefold to 25%.
Piyush Goyal did not provide any timeline, and Apple has yet to comment on the announcement.
This is not the first time we have heard of such a change. Previously, analysts predicted that 25% of iPhone production will be moved to India by 2025. they were guessing and Foxconn are reportedly increasing their workforce at the factory just outside the city of Chennai.
Uncertainties about the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions, and geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington are the main reasons why Apple is moving away from China and Foxconn is diversifying its production in multiple factories.
