The “threatening” victim towards the police in Paris?

The police justified the opening of fire by the “threatening” character of the suspect man. According to information from Parisian, the gunman allegedly initially threatened a dog with a handgun. He then turned towards the police and pointed the barrel of his gun in their direction. It was at this time that, according to a source familiar with the matter quoted by the newspaper, the agents of the security forces would have fired. If the man was armed, he would not have “uttered words in particular to the police but was indeed threatening”, added a police source.

No information on the identity of the victim has been communicated at this stage by the investigators. The man had been reported to the police as carrying a weapon in the streets of Paris. According to the first elements of the investigation disclosed by police sources to BFM TVthe weapon that was in the possession of the suspect man was dummy and similar to airsoft weapons.

Two open investigations

The police intervention led to the opening of two investigations. The judicial police is in charge of the investigations opened for the count of attempted murder of a person holding public authority. The armed man was therefore suspected of wanting to attack the police before being fatally injured. It is to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), that is to say the police of the police, that returns the second investigation in charge of shedding light on the circumstances of the police shootings.
