Houtens swimming pool De Startsprong fights for energy aid: ‘It will be a complicated story next month’

Houtens swimming pool De Startsprong fights for energy aid It

These are difficult times for Peek and co-owner Ingrid Vulto. Since the war in Ukraine, their energy prices have risen by 250 percent, their rents have gone up by 14 percent. The swimming pool has solar panels on the roof and there are three heat pumps to work as energy efficient as possible. “And we turned the water down by one and a half degrees,” says Peek. They have used every opportunity to save energy. But it doesn’t outweigh the huge increase in costs. Many other swimming pools face the same problems and municipalities often come to the rescue. Also in Houten, at another swimming pool in the municipality. “But that subsidy clearly stated: not for commercial companies,” says Peek. “And so we don’t qualify.”
