Anyone who only knows the later Hulk actor Eric Bana as the sensitive Bruce Banner will be shocked by the gangster film Chopper. The Australian plays one in it ruthless criminalwho cuts off his own ear for the relief of a prison sentence.
In 2000, the film adaptation of a (probably) true story was released and made several people involved suddenly famous. Today, Chopper enjoys the reputation of a cult film.

What is it about and why is the gangster film worth it?
The Australian Mark “Chopper” Read (Eric Bana) has a resolution: he wants to become a crime legend. Career goal: cult gangster! Sunglasses with a cool stone face, a body covered in tattoos, a gun in each hand. A beefy sociopath, intoxicated by his own dangerousness, even if it’s more fiction than fact.
The wild story is based on the life of Mark Read, who started his underworld career as a gang leader in Melbourne and kidnapped other criminals. In order to get his ransom, he used the most brutal means. Read, who died in 2013, later made a career as an author. He freely gave interviews and confessed to murders.

“Chopper” suggested comedy actor Eric Bana to star in the film adaptation of his autobiography. That was through the Transformation into the eccentric criminal worldwide fame and offered to star in the Marvel movie Hulk.
Director Andrew Dominik, who caused controversy with Blond this year on Netflix, made his directorial debut with Chopper and already proved his uncompromising will to style, which is just right for the sometimes paranoid atmosphere of the film. It was so impressive that Dominik was later hired to write the masterpiece The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford.
If you like hard-hitting gangster movies and eccentric characters like Quentin Tarantino or Guy Ritchie, you should definitely give Chopper a chance.
