The Social Democrats demand that PM Nilsson – state secretary to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) – resign after he lied to the police about his involvement in poaching, writes Dagens Nyheter.
State Secretary Peter Magnus Nilsson, best known as PM Nilsson, has admitted in a post on Facebook that he lied during a conversation with the police shortly before Christmas.
The conversation was about Nilsson’s involvement in eel poaching, where he thus denied that he was guilty of the crime. After the Christmas weekend, Nilsson is said to have called the police back and confessed. He is punished with daily fines totaling SEK 38,000, writes DN.
– It is not appropriate to have a state secretary who, as recently as December, has actively misled the police. We have concluded that it is not appropriate for him to remain as state secretary, says Ardalan Shekarabi (S), legal policy spokesperson, to the newspaper.
Nilsson writes in an SMS to DN that he was surprised by the phone call and did not have time to think clearly.
“When the Christmas holiday was over, I called the man at the Karlskrona police and changed my details. The Russians were mine and I will of course take a penalty order for breaking the fisheries law,” he writes.
