Hardly anyone has seen the action film in the cinema

After the incredible success story of Top Gun: Maverick, it’s amazing that about the others big flyer film 2022 was hardly spoken: devotion. Directed by JD Dillard, the war drama premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival but went under completely afterward.

Armed with a budget of $90 million, Devotion tells the true story of the Friendship of two US pilots in the Korean War. The film grossed just $21 million in the US, and that’s despite Glen Powell, the Top Gun: Maverick breakout star, playing one of the two leads.

Action packed war movie on Netflix: Devotion is the perfect Top Gun 2 replacement

After the US flop, Sony didn’t even bring Devotion to German cinemas. Instead, the film will be released in this country exclusively on Netflix. Starting tomorrow, January 20, 2023, you can watch the war action on the streaming service. Jonathan Majors (Kang), known from the MCU, also plays alongside Powell.

The action is set during the Korean War in the 1950s. The young Tom Hudner (Glen Powell) decides against studying at the prestigious Harvard University. Instead, he joins the US Navy, where he Fighter Squadron 32 is assigned and meets Jesse Brown (Jonathan Majors).

Brown is the Navy’s first black fighter pilot. However, he does not want to be reduced to this by his comrades and superiors. He ambitiously proves that he is one of the best fighter pilots while at the same time a deep friendship develops between him and Hudner, which is only torn apart by the war.

Devotion is a film adaptation of the book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice by Adam Makos, which deals with the friendship between Brown and Hudner. Director Dillard, who has caused a stir in the past with genre material such as Sleight and Sweetheart, packs the story into a nerve-wracking and touching mixture of action and drama.
