Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Åkesson does not consider Turkey to be a democracy, but feels that he has been able to criticize Turkey during the NATO process.
To Today’s news says Åkesson that the government must not go too far in how to handle the Turkish outbursts because it is ultimately an anti-democratic system and a dictator that Sweden has to deal with.
– I am party leader of the anti-Islamist party SD and have strong views on an Islamist dictator like Erdogan. He is elected, yes. But so is Putin in that sense.
“Serious problems”
SD’s foreign policy spokesperson Aron Emilsson is now commenting on the statement and Turkey’s demands on Sweden’s and Finland’s NATO applications.
– It is obvious that Turkey has serious problems in its democratic system, he says.
