The year 2023 is off to a strong start for Nintendo, which has just lifted the embargo for testing Fire Emblem Engage, its latest J-RPG for its Nintendo Switch. An episode particularly awaited by fans of the series, who have been waiting for a real revival for a few years. The title also tries new gameplay mechanics, in particular the fact of being able to go through a kind of hub (Somniel, the flying fortress), before setting off again on an adventure to chain the fights, but big modo, we find the same structure. This is both what pleased the journalists of the specialized press and what displeased them, since the latter criticize the game for not going through with its transformation. The game thus finds itself with its buttocks between two chairs, unable to separate itself from its old mechanics, while offering fresh elements, but not innovative enough. However, the overhaul of the combat system makes it possible to reconsider things and to approach the game in a different way. Going to Metacritic, we see that the game displays an average score of 82% for 63 reviews listed, which is a very positive Metascore.
