What is ChatGPT? ChatGPT is a language model developed and trained by the company OpenAI. It can be used to do natural language tasks like generating text, answering questions, and translating text.
Who is behind ChatGPT? OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is a US company dedicated to researching AI. In December 2022, OpenAI introduced the artificial intelligence ChatGPT. This in turn is based on GPT-3, an in-house development.

How to use ChatGPT? If you want to use the AI, go directly to the manufacturer’s official website. Here you have to register: Either you use an existing Google or Microsoft account or create a new account with an email address.
If you create an account with an email address, you must confirm the email. In the next step, you will need a cell phone number for verification. If that worked, you successfully log into the AI mask and can start right away.
How much does ChatGPT cost? ChatGPT is initially free for private users. So far there are no restrictions on how much and what you can ask the AI. However, if the servers are busy, it may take some time for the answer or there is an error message (“blackout”).
There is already a fee-based model for companies that has to be negotiated with OpenAI. The cost depends on factors such as the volume of textual data the model is expected to process, the specific application or use case, and the level of support and customization required.
In the meantime, however, OpenAI has also announced a paid version, “ChatGPT-Professional”, for private individuals. There is now a queue where you can register. Why are some criticizing the AI? ChatGPT and other AI systems are currently being criticized. Because some fear that such AI bots could replace human work (via zdnet.com). Because a chatbot can efficiently transcribe an article in a matter of seconds, while it would take a real human to do it much longer (via theguardian.com).
Some even fear that such chatbots can encourage cheating. Because the AI writes a complete essay for students to write in seconds. Or, in the worst case, develop chemical weapons for evil purposes.
Another point of criticism is that the AI sells many answers as plausible, even if it is misinformation. Here, however, the AI itself points out that there can sometimes be “plausible-sounding, but incorrect or nonsensical answers”.
