There are indications that two popular game modes could return to CoD: Modern Warfare 2 soon. Apparently, icons have appeared in the game files that can be assigned to the modes “Loot money” (Plunder) and “Cranked” (Cranked).
What happened? A handful of screenshots have been circulating on Twitter over the past few days. These images feature game icons that the community quickly identified as “Plunder” and “Cranked.”
The screenshots were published by the Twitter account @BKTOOR, a CoD leaker that was already making a name for itself in the days of Modern Warfare (2019). Back then, he was often right in his guesses and able to correctly predict content long before it was officially announced.
10 settings that will make you better in CoD MW2
Any other hints? Yes, what is particularly interesting is that this new information coincides with leaks that caused a stir in the community in December last year. Back then, a YouTube video had players hoping for a comeback of the modes where you see a multiplayer map from Modern Warfare 2. However, instead of tooltips for ammo depots, the icons show the tooltip “Call in Cash Deposit Heli”. The Cash Deposit Heli was a core feature of WZ1’s Plunder mode.
While the said YouTube video is still available, the latest screenshots by Twitter user BKTOOR have since been removed due to a copyright claim.
With CoD: MW2 came many gameplay innovations for the popular battle royale. You can find an overview in the trailer here.
Comeback of “old” gameplay modes in Modern Warfare 2
What are these game modes? The Plunder mode was an alternative to the classic Warzone battle royale mode on the big map. The aim was to collect the largest possible amount of cash in one round. To do this, players had to loot, complete orders and wrest their hard-earned money from opponents. The squad with the most cash won the round.
In the mode, the players started with their loadout, the search for suitable weapons was largely eliminated. Compared to the Warzone, there was no Gulag: if players were eliminated, they could rejoin the game after a short countdown.

Cranked, on the other hand, is a game mode for classic multiplayer, such as Team Deathmatch. It ensures fast, action-packed gameplay. Whenever you get a kill, you get a bonus to your movement speed, aiming, and reloading. If you don’t get another kill within 30 seconds, your operator will explode and you will lose the bonuses.
Cranked forces players to actively participate in combat. Campers will be penalized if they stay in one place for too long. CoD Modern Warfare: For Anyone Who Hates Campers – There Is Now A Solution

Community demands old modes and new maps
Are the old game modes coming back? This is not confirmed yet. However, the community has been speculating for some time that the new season could also bring additional game modes to Modern Warfare 2. The Season 1 Battle Pass ends at the beginning of February, at the latest there will be official information about new content.
Regardless of this, large parts of the community want the old game modes back. In addition to the Plunder mode, the players keep asking for a comeback of “Resurgence”. This mini-royal format played mostly on the smaller maps Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep.
In any case, it is certain that the fans of the shooter would like more variety. This is also shown by the evaluation of the MeinMMO survey on Warzone 2: Does anyone still play Warzone 2? That’s how you voted.
The Plunder mode, which is a bit more relaxed compared to the Battle Royale, and the Resurgence mode on smaller maps seem to offer exactly this variety. MeinMMO reader Viktor Frankenstein sees it very similarly. In a comment, he explained why WZ2 is already “dead” for him:
Warzone 2.0 is also ‘dead’ to me, that’s because there’s no loot mode anymore, and no Rebirth Island either. Battle Royale was and is just a boring mode for me and my buddies, so we only played Plunder and Rebirth Island. We haven’t played Warzone 2.0 for a month, and unfortunately DMZ isn’t as interesting and exciting as we hoped at the beginning.
