With the call of the Italian Union of Municipalities (ANCI), many municipalities across the country turned off the lights of important and historical buildings in their cities for a few hours in order to protest the rising electricity expenditure costs.
LIGHTS TURN OFF IN MANY HISTORICAL BUILDINGS IN ITALY
The lights of important monumental buildings across the country, especially the historical city hall Campidoglio in the capital city of Rome, the historical Vecchio Palace and Vecchio Bridge in Florence, and the Marino Palace and Sforzesco Castle in Milan, were turned off at 20:00 local time.
Noting that they took such an action to draw attention, ANCI President Antonio Decaro stated that the government’s support was not sufficient.
Prime Minister Mario Draghi, in his statement yesterday, stated that as the government, they are working on intervention in energy prices. (AA)
