This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt.
The statement comes ahead of a meeting at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany with the group that coordinates arms aid to Ukraine and is led by the United States.
Kyiv has long called for heavier weapons – including tanks – but the West has been reluctant, citing the possibility of provoking Russia.
— We are in a decisive phase of the war. Therefore, it is important that we provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to win, says Stoltenberg.
The pressure on the allies is growing to go further in arms deliveries. Earlier this month, France, Germany and the United States pledged to send combat vehicles of the AMX 10-RC, Marder and Bradley types.
On Saturday, Britain also announced that it is sending its Challenger 2 heavy tanks to Ukraine.
