SVT Nyheter Stockholm has previously reported that pregnant women in the city of Stockholm have been banned from working due to the risk of exposure to covid-19 during the autumn, despite the fact that the authorities lifted the restrictions this summer.
This resulted in several pregnant women being suspended without pay and needing to apply for pregnancy allowance, which is very low compared to sickness allowance. Which led to a large loss of income for several pregnant women.
Ongoing disputes
Kristina Nilsson (S) is part of the group that has been appointed to investigate the social insurance cover for pregnant women. There, they look at the boundary between sickness benefit and pregnancy benefit and review the principle of loss of income within pregnancy benefit. The investigation should be completed this summer.
– The regulations have looked the same since the 80s, but the labor market has changed. We have seen that there is a risk of pregnant women being discriminated against, says Kristina Nilsson.
The most affected have been pregnant in the teaching profession, and the union is currently pursuing several cases against the city of Stockholm. There are ongoing disputes between the unions and SKR.
Missing information
In the state investigation, it is also mentioned that relocations have been inadequate.
– We have reviewed 300 files and there it is difficult to see how the relocations have been made, it is not shown in the documents, says Kristina Nilsson.
Something that even SVT Nyheter Stockholm can see in its own review.
In the clip above, Kristina Nilsson tells more about the investigation.
