Reetta Hurske ran a new Finnish record of 7.90 in the women’s 60m hurdles on Saturday. The record was set at the Hippohallit competition in athletics in Tampere. The previous SE time was Nooralotta Nezirin clocked by 7.91 from 2021.
– I got a good start and got into a pretty good rhythm. I was pleased that I didn’t knock over the fences or anything like that. There was still some fumbling in the run – there was still room for improvement. I believe that time will improve, Hurske told Urheilu.
Hurske ran in Tampere in his first Run with a time of 7.95. His own personal record on indoor tracks was 7.93 before Saturday’s run. It came during the last government period.
Later on Saturday, Hurske ran a smooth 60 meter race with a time of 7.50.
– The goal was to run a club record and it came, so I guess it went quite well, Hurske, representing Tampere Pyrintö, estimated.
Pika-aitur’s result is wild considering that he said his actual reign will only start at the end of January in Düsseldorf. The main goal of Hurskee’s indoor season is to succeed in the European Indoor Championships, which will be held from the 2nd to the 5th. March in Istanbul, Turkey.
– I’ve been fourth once, so let’s hope I can improve on that. I’m not going to the games to bow down to anyone. Now it seems that Europe’s toughest are also starting their reign and have got camps under them. Success will then be seen there in Istanbul, Hurske stated.
Hurske’s personal trainer Marjukka Suihko said that the success shows that the changes made in the autumn exercises have produced results.
– I knew that Reetta was in good shape. It (SE time) was not a surprise, although you can’t say with full certainty what the first race will bring, Suihko said.
He stated that Hurske competes in the SM indoor competitions in Finland, but otherwise the speed skater travels around Europe’s biggest indoor competitions.
Hurskee’s run of 7.90 is the first Finnish record time in his own name.
– Of course it’s very warm. It’s a great achievement and it feels good, Suihko said.
– It’s nice that you don’t have to share the Finnish record with anyone. The goal is to run in the early 7.8s, Hurske assured.
Hurske’s run also attracted interest abroad. For example, the European Athletics Federation European Athletics cheered Hurske’s SE run on Twitter (you go to another service). And no wonder, it was also the top result in the world.
Finished second in the final race in Tampere, returning to the track after a couple of years off Lotta Harala at 8,12. The run was Harala’s record.
The indoor season for 60-meter paddlers has started with a bang. Was on the sidelines last summer due to injuries Annimari Korte opened the season this week with a record 8.06.
