It was at the end of 2021 that Njudung Energi sampled the water in the municipality’s waterworks in order to identify the amount of PFAS in the drinking water.
It turned out that all the waterworks had a level that was low and well below the limit of 90 nanograms per liter. Näshult, on the other hand, stood out with a level of 30 nanograms. Other waterworks in the municipality had a level up to 2.64 nanograms per litre.
Below the Swedish Food Agency’s limit value
In order to reduce the levels of PFAS in the drinking water, carbon filters were installed in the waterworks in Näshult in February, and it now appears to have had a positive effect.
– The value is now down to zero, you can feel completely safe drinking the water, says Manuela Östangård, VA engineer at Njudung Energi in a press release.
During the summer and autumn of 2022, the municipality has carried out several supplementary investigations in individual water wells, soil, groundwater and storm water in Näshult. The results now show that the levels of PFAS are low in several places.
At the same time, the municipality writes in the press release that they are still evaluating and monitoring the situation with supplementary samples in 2023.
