Dementia treated in hospital run a 70 percent higher risk of dying from covid-19 compared to others treated for the disease in hospital, according to a new study at the Karolinska Institutet, Vetenskapsradion reports.
The study shows that of approximately 5,000 who were treated for covid-19 in hospitals in the Stockholm area, approximately 800 had dementia and they ran an almost 70 percent increased risk of dying from the disease compared to others who were treated for covid-19 in hospitals.
There was an even higher mortality rate in those with dementia who also took antipsychotic drugs, but the researchers failed to show a causal link.
