The warning applies to flooding between Borås and Ulricehamn, and may mean that roads and homes are affected.
– There has been a lot of rain and snow and in connection with some watercourses and lakes there is a risk of flooding, says Marcus Sjöstedt, meterologist at SVT.
It is the first time since the flood warning was added in 2021 that the red warning has been used. It applies throughout the weekend.
On Friday afternoon, SMHI, the Swedish Transport Agency and the municipalities in the area sit down in crisis meetings together with the emergency services.
Yellow warning has also been issued for other parts of western Götaland, northern Östergötland and southern Småland and Blekinge.
