Sony has revealed which games will be downloaded the most on PS5 in 2022. The football simulation FIFA 23 is number 1, although it is only 4 months old.
What is this list? Sony has posted a list of the most downloaded games on the PS5 in 2022 on the PlayStation Blog.
A total of 20 games are represented on the list, but not all of them were released in 2022. In addition to new releases like Elden Ring, GTA V is also one of the top 20.
The list is also divided into Europe and US/ Canada. In this article, we assume the European list relevant for Germany.
Sports game trumps FIFA downloads 2022
Which game is number 1? In Europe, the sports game FIFA 23, released in September 2022, is in first place. The football simulation thus tops the list of the most downloaded games in 2022, although it was only released almost 4 months ago.
FIFA 23 is the last game of EA’s football simulation game to bear the name “FIFA”. The popular title has lost naming rights and will be called EA Sports FC from July 2023.
Anyone who thinks that the success of the football simulation is a European phenomenon is wrong: FIFA 23 took a strong second place in the US and Canada.

What other games are there? Arguably FIFA’s biggest competitor in terms of download numbers on PS5 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. While the latest installment in the popular shooter franchise landed at number 2 in Europe, it took first place in the US/Canada.
GTA V is also in the top 5 in both regions, as the game’s online mode continues to be updated nine years after its release. For example, there is now a weapon transporter where players can buy a railgun.

Which F2P games are popular? Sony has created an extra list for the most downloaded free-to-play games, which in turn is also divided into EU and US/Canada and contains a total of 10 games.
Number 1 of the most popular F2P games of 2022 in Europe is Call of Duty: Warzone 2, followed by another battle royale shooter, Fortnite. The top 5 is completed by Rocket League, Fall Guys and the Sims 4.
In places 6 to 10 are Overwatch 2, FIFA 23 competitor eFootball 2023, Apex Legends, Genshin Impact and MultiVersus – the fighting game also celebrated a strong release on Steam.
