As a movie star, Tom Cruise is constantly living on the edge – literally. No one else takes action acting as seriously as he does. Most recently, he delivered emotional stunt cinema with Top Gun: Maverick. But he got most of the bruises in the Mission Impossible series. Almost 8 years ago he set a record (supposedly) for eternity for part 5 Rogue Nation. Had it not been for Avatar 2 with its even more ambitious stars.
That’s what Mission: Impossible 5 is all about
Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation – Trailer (German) HD
Things are not going well for the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) as since it was disbanded Ethan’s colleagues have been incorporated into the CIA and Ethan is a fugitive agent to be caught. To the existence of the so-called syndicatea kind of “anti-IMF”, nobody believes except Ethan himself.
Luckily he has a team he can rely on even as a refugee: As in Mission: Impossible – Phantom Protocol he is supported by analyst William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), technical genius Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and his oldest confidant Luther Strickell (Ving Rhames). In addition, he repeatedly encounters the mysterious Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) during his own research.
Tom Cruise’s dive record and how Avatar 2 broke it
At the film’s climax, Rogue Nation features a diving scene that pushed Tom Cruise to the limit. Ethan Hunt and his team steal a computer chip from a power plant. However, the server room with the chip is located underwater. Ethan jumps into the tank himself and has to hold his breath long enough to get past the security crane that rotates constantly around the computer.
The scene was shot without interruption, so Tom Cruise had to hold his breath for the same amount of time as his character: a whopping 6 minutes. An incredible time. [Hier könnt ihr Details nachlesen].

Cruise set an unofficial record. An actor or actress had never held their breath longer for a film shoot. The record would probably have lasted for decades if James Cameron hadn’t shot a blockbuster that is more than two-thirds underwater: Avatar 2: The Way of Water.
A large part of the cast trained for months in apnea diving, i.e. diving without aids such as oxygen tanks, for the shoot. A competition developed among the performers as to who could hold their breath longer. At some point during the shoot Then Kate Winslet broke the Tom Cruise barrier: She stayed underwater for her character Ronal for 7 minutes and 14 seconds. A new record.
Sorry Tom Cruise, that record isn’t yours anymore. For Mission: Impossible 7 and 8, however, he puts his life in danger again.
