He went to the hospital just because he was itchy! He learned that he has both Covid and cancer

He went to the hospital just because he was itchy

Şükran Tekin, a 61-year-old mother of 5 children living in Nizip district of Gaziantep, applied to a private hospital with the complaint of intense itching. While Tekin’s Covid test at the hospital was negative, Tekin’s condition worsened after a piece was taken for biopsy. Tekin, who was transferred to the hospital in a coma, was treated in the Internal Medicine Intensive Care Service 10 days ago.

DOCTOR’S DOUBT WAS TRUE

Undertaking the treatment of the patient, Gaziantep University Internal Medicine Intensive Care Department Head Assoc. Dr. Gülseren Elay and her team started to investigate the cause of itching. The patient, who did not experience common symptoms of Covid such as cough, fever and shortness of breath, did not find any Covid-19 findings in his lung tomography. The Covid test of the patient, who was retested on suspicion of Covid-19, was positive this time. The patient, who started Covid treatment after the test result, Assoc. Dr. Thanks to the successful treatment of Elay and his team, he defeated the virus without being intubated.

THE FIRST PATIENT TO HAVE THE VIRUS WITH ITS ITCH

Examining the biopsy result of the patient, Elay determined that the patient also had lymphatic cancer. Doctor Elay was also surprised that Tekin, who was the first patient in Turkey to experience the corona virus with symptoms of itching, only experienced itching. Doctor Elay’s suspicions were correct, allowing the patient to defeat the virus with the right treatment. While the test of the patient, who defeated Covid in a short time, turned negative, Tekin’s current goal is to defeat lymph cancer.

DESPITE CANCER, CORONAVIRUS BECOME

Assoc. Dr. Gülseren Elay stated that the patient’s itching complaint ended after Covid treatment applications. Evaluating the treatment process of the patient, Assoc. Dr. Elay said, “I have read in the literature that this type of itching can be detected in Covid-19. We were asking all the patients who were hospitalized and we had not detected anything like this until now,” he said.

WE THOUGHT THE ITCH MAY BE RELATED TO THE VIRUS

Assoc. Dr. Elay stated that the patient spent a long time complaining of itching. Elay, who shared that they did not detect a clear suspicion of Covid in the patient’s tomography, said, “There were intense itching marks in many parts of his body. As such, we thought that this itch might be related to Covid. Because there are such cases in the literature. The history of this patient was not in our minds at first. I have never seen a patient hospitalized in the intensive care unit because of itching. As this was the case, we thought that this symptom could be either cancer or Covid. The Covid test in Nizip was negative. We wanted to repeat the test. Because the way the test is done is also important. Sometimes the disease may not go away immediately. We did the test and the patient was positive.”

RETURNED FROM DEATH

Şükran Tekin, who returned from death by defeating the corona virus, stated that it never occurred to them that he might have contracted the corona virus, and said, “A piece of my body was taken. When your condition worsened, I was transferred to this hospital. I had 2 doses of German vaccine. Despite this, the virus still affected me. Thanks to the vaccine, I beat the virus. I recommend the vaccine to everyone. Everyone should come and get vaccinated. I also regret not having the 3rd and 4th doses of vaccine. If they don’t get vaccinated, they will experience the same situation as I did. They may even be worse than me. I would like to thank my doctor and his team very much,” he said.
