Broadcast on Disney++ Starting Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the Welcome to Chippendales series looks at the rocky journey of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, founder of the men’s strip club of the same name. Beyond the rhinestones, glitter and bulging muscles, the advent of this empire of adult entertainment took place in more than gloomy conditions that the series created by Robert Siegel (Pam & Tommy) will reveal to us. Adapted from the book entitled “Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders” by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca, Welcome to Chippendales centers on the character of Somen Banerjee (played by Kumail Nanjiani, seen in The Eternals and Silicon Valley), ready for anything to cling to his success. The series has been available on Disney+ since January 11, 2023 in France after its American broadcast on Hulu. As a reminder, this series is rated 18+ on Disney+, so it is necessary toenable Disney+ parental controls to be able to access it.

Warning, potential series spoilers in this paragraph. Born in 1946 in Mumbai, Somen Banerjee immigrated to the United States where he first managed a gas station and a backgammon club that closed down. Subsequently, he buys a club called “Destiny II” which he will transform into a nightclub. From 1979, his club was wildly successful thanks to a male striptease number aimed at a female audience. This is the beginning of the Chippendales empire. But all is not rosy for the one who now calls himself Steve Banerjee. Enraged by the producer of his show and by former dancers turned competitors, Banerjee enters a criminal spiral and hires an assassin to make those who get in his way disappear. Having pleaded guilty to arson, racketeering and ordering assassinations, he was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Somen Banerjee was found hanged in his cell on October 23, 1994.

The Welcome to Chippendales series was broadcast in the United States at the end of December 2022 on Hulu. In France, the series is available exclusively for streaming on Disney+, Disney+’s subscription streaming service.
