A 38-year-old Blenheim man was arrested early this morning a month after the car he was driving nearly collided with a Chatham-Kent police cruiser.
The man was found on Catharine Street in Blenheim at 5:44 am and arrested.
Police say an officer was driving southbound on Marlborough Street South in Blenheim on Dec. 14 when a vehicle was seen traveling towards the cruiser in the same lane. The officer swerved to avoid a collision.
Although directed to stop, police say the vehicle drove into a plowed field off Chatham Street South. Both occupants tried to flee into a wooded area, but a 22-year-woman was arrested after a foot chase. She was a passenger and was later released.
The driver, however, was identified and a warrant issued for his arrest.
He is now charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from the police, operating a motor vehicle will prohibited, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was transported to police headquarters this morning and held pending a bail hearing.
