Audi, BMW and Mercedes trio, which has achieved a significant increase in electric sales, did not change the 2021 ranking in the competition within itself.
BMW, which took the global leadership by leaving Mercedes behind among premium brands with its output in 2021, attracted attention. Despite the crises that broke out in the market in the last few years, a significant part of the giants, which made serious efforts to reach users, gave recovery messages in 2022. When we look at the sales figures that are officially shared with the transition to the new year, we see regressions compared to the previous year. In the eternal rivalry between Audi, BMW and Mercedes, we can say that the 2021 ranking continues in 2022. BMW, which sold a total of 2,100,692 vehicles in 2022, again managed to catch the first place. The brand, which experienced a noticeable decrease of 5.1 percent compared to the previous year, reported a much higher loss compared to Mercedes.

2022 figures for Audi, BMW and Mercedes
Following BMW’s global sales of 2,1000.692 units, the Mercedes front reported sales of 2,043,900 units in 2022. This figure, which means a 1% decline compared to 2021, also draws attention to the improving supply chain, especially in the last months of the year. When we look at Audi, which recently shared its figures, we see that it has achieved sales of 1,614,231 units on a global basis. Just like BMW, Audi draws attention with a noticeable decrease of 3.9 percent compared to the previous year. Perhaps the most striking thing in the brand’s 2022 performance is the jump in electric car sales. Audi, which sells 118,196 electric models, 42.8% more than in 2021, looks to the future more assertively with its e-tron product range.

On the BMW front, there is a radical increase in electric car sales as a group. With the inclusion of other sub-brands such as MINI, BMW announced the sales of nearly 2.4 million vehicles on a global basis, and the share of electric vehicles was given as 215,755 units. The electric version of MINI’s best-selling vehicle in the group is definitely among the highlights of the story. MINI wants to introduce the first electric crossover model to the market by carrying the Aceman concept, which it introduced last year, to mass production by 2025.

Mercedes-Benz On the other hand, electric car sales increased by 124 percent compared to 2021 and were recorded as 117,800 units. The most remarkable performance on this side is in the flagships. Maybach, G-Class and AMG models stand out with a noticeable increase in demand in the last quarter of 2022. With a global delivery of 90,000 units, the S-Class has increased the previous year’s figures by 5 percent. In the same period, sales data of 19,200 units were shared for EQS, the flagship of the electricity side. Especially the last quarter of 2022 is a record for both models. In 2022, when ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley also achieved record sales, we can say that we have experienced the continuation of the trend of seeing cars as investment vehicles.
