“We want to thank Nabil for his time in AIK. He has contributed a lot of points in the black and yellow jersey for a long time and we wish him the best of luck in his continued career,” says Manuel Lindberg, CEO/Club Director and Acting Sports Director, in a statement on AIK’s website.
After a few years in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, 31-year-old Bahoui returned to AIK in 2019 and then signed a contract that ran until December 31 last year. A contract that is now not being extended.
But if Bahoui himself had decided, there would have been a continuation.
“I am very disappointed with how this has been handled, I have always wanted to stay in AIK, I have a big AIK heart and love the club. I would have liked to be part of this journey with a new coach in whom I believe a lot,” he writes on Instagram.
And continues:
“Brännan (Andreas Brännström, coach) has been clear to me that he really wants me to stay, but there are others in the club who for some reason don’t want to keep me, I know who they are and I will talk more about it in the future .”
In total, Nabil Bahoui played 181 competitive matches for “Gnaget” and scored 67 goals, making him the tenth leading scorer in the club’s history, writes AIK.
