Jair Bolsonaro was taken to a hospital in Orlando, United States, on January 9, 2023, for a resurgence of pain linked to the attack he suffered in 2018.

It was through Instagram that the news was confirmed, Jair Bolsonaro was hospitalized on January 9, 2023 for “intestinal discomfort”. It was his wife Michelle Bolsonaro who therefore published this message mentioning that the former president of Brazil was still suffering from the stabbing he had received in 2018 from a “former PSOL affiliate”. Although his place of hospitalization was not communicated by his wife, certain Brazilian media specified upstream that he would be hospitalized in the American state of Florida, in Orlando at the AdventHealth Celebration.

The former president has indeed gone into exile in the United States following his defeat in the presidential election against Lula. He therefore commented from a distance on the national policy now guided by his socialist rival. He was also admitted to the hospital the day after the attempted insurrection led by his militants, ransacking the monuments of power that he had condemned in half-words.

Why was Jair Bolsonaro hospitalized?

This is not the first time that Jair Bolsonaro has been hospitalized for his abdominal problems. As AFP clarified, he has been hospitalized at least six times and as many for operations since 2018. On his Twitter account where he is very active he shared a first snapshot from his hospital bed.

Repeated operations and hospitalizations are the consequence of this violent attack that the former Brazilian head of state received during a meeting in 2018. Physically carried by his supporters during a walkabout, a former member of PSOL (radical left) between 2007 to 2014 then stabbed him in the abdomen. Jair Bolsonaro then underwent emergency surgery. An attack with serious consequences: on Twitterhis son confirmed that his father had “the liver, a lung, and part of the intestine perforated” and that he “had lost a lot of blood”.
