Armand Duplantis is celebrated for his fantastic last year.
When the performance of the year in the world of athletics was to be voted for, it wasn’t even exciting.
And that just goes to show how superior Duplantis really is.
The Track and Field News magazine was first published in 1948 and is highly recognized in the world of athletics. In addition to online news, a magazine is also released every month, and in the latest issue several awards from past years were revealed. Among other things, the male athlete of the year and the performance of the year in the athletics world were named, and it was, as expected, a grand slam for Duplantis.
Won the mighty prize
When choosing the male athlete of the year, 31 international athletics experts took part in the voting, where all athletes were rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Armand Duplantis won 18 out of 19 events last season, and also broke a new world record. He also did it during the competition when he saved his WC gold. And when the male athlete of the year voting was announced, it wasn’t even exciting.
Armand Duplantis received the highest rating from 28 out of 31 international experts, and no one else was even close to threatening him. Now Duplantis has also been praised again by the same newspaper. In addition to awarding awards to the male and female athletes of the year, awards are also given for the year’s performance. And even there, Duplantis was completely superior.

Completely superior
In that poll, a total of 18 experts voted, on a rating scale from 5-4-3-2-1. Armand Duplantis got a whopping 15(!) out of 18 first places, and a total score of 86. Whoever came second on the list, based on his performance, had more than half as many points. Armand Duplantis won the achievement for his incredible effort during this summer’s World Athletics Championships.
He then entered with the hope of only winning gold, but exceeded all expectations when he jumped 6.21, which is a new world record. The last time Duplantis broke the world record it was enough for sixth place in the performance of the year, but this time, when it mattered so much, it was enough for a completely superior first place.
