There is a shortage of personal assistants and now there are alarms that the situation will worsen in the future. TV4 Nyheterna has met Jessica Smaaland, who needs assistance around the clock. She testifies to difficulties in hiring staff.
She has spinal muscular atrophy, which is a muscle disease that breaks down motor neurons in, among other things, the midbrain. For her, things got worse gradually and today she needs help with all her daily needs.
– You live in constant stress, will I have enough people to assist me? Will I be able to continue living my life? It doesn’t help that I have assistance granted, I also have to have assistants who want to work here, she says.
