The government announced on Monday that households in northern Sweden will also receive compensation for high electricity costs.
– I think that’s great. It’s exactly as it should be, we shouldn’t be without electricity support here in Norrland – we who produce a lot of electricity, says Ume resident Birgitta Cox.
Tobias Johansson agrees:
– That is quite reasonable. We are also part of Sweden.
The support is part of a new package that not only covers electricity areas three and four, but all of Sweden, to compensate for the price increase in November and December. But the question of whether the support could have come earlier has come up.
– We have not had electricity prices that have been above the spot price level in total during this period, explains Minister of Energy and Industry Ebba Busch (KD).
However, no further compensation from the government is promised.
– There are no guarantees or promises that we will be able to continue supporting households in this way.
