Dave Bautista relieved to be done with Drax

In a long interview with GQ magazine, actor Dave Bautista returned to his acting career, he who was acclaimed by director Rian Johnson, amazed by the acting talents of the former WWE wrestler. It must be said that in the recent Glass Onion, Dave Bautista surprises with his role against the grain, something that seems to suit anyone who would like us to take him seriously now in Hollywood. Among the strong revelations during this interview with GQ, we also have confirmation that the next Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is indeed the actor’s last MCU film, visibly relieved to have finished with the character of Drax. If he measures the chance of having been chosen to embody one of the superheroes of the Marvel stable, he is also relieved to have finished with him, no doubt for the direction taken by Kevin Feige to make a clown, far from the bad-ass character that we know in comic books.

I’m so grateful to Drax. I love it. But it’s a relief that it’s over. It wasn’t always pleasant. It was difficult to play this role. The makeup process was oppressive. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.

This is not the first time that Dave Bautista has complained about the tone used for the character of Drax, and we remember the exchanges of tweets he had had in early 2021 with director James Gunn, where he explained that he wanted end the character. Obviously, if this sounds like certain death for Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it is not forbidden that James Gunn decided to retire the character rather than kill him. He remembers being in his car heading to the gym when he found out he got the job. “I had to stop because I was crying so hard”he says, before adding: “I turned around and walked into my house shaking to tell my wife I got the part, and we were both there going crazy.”

With Guardians of the Galaxy 3, an era is coming to an end for this team of superheroes. Not only because James Gunn has gone to competition to redesign the future of DCU, but also because many actors want to be done with their character. It is therefore not impossible that other superheroes will no longer continue the adventure of the Guardians with this episode. Answer in May 2023.
